A Piece of Ground

What is included in a group booking, and what costs extra?

Included: your beds, the whole compound to yourselves, the kitchen, courtyard, rooftop, common areas and WiFi. Extra: meals at $15 a head, laundry by the load, the separate apartment, and anything you do off the property.

This is the question we most want you to ask before you arrive, because the alternative is finding out on the last day.

What your lodging rate covers. The beds you have booked, and exclusive use of the compound while you are here — the open-air kitchen, the courtyard and hammocks, the rooftop sundeck, the common areas, the gardens, and WiFi throughout. Nobody else is on the property.

What is separate. Meals cooked here, at $15 per person per meal for groups of twelve or more. Laundry, which is billed by the load. The self-contained apartment on the compound, if leaders want it, is charged separately from the main beds. And anything off the property — tours, transport, guides — which we do not run and do not bill for.

Tax. 9% on lodging. There is no tax on meals.

We spell this out because "exclusive use of the compound" has been read before as meaning everything on it, including a separate apartment somebody assumed was part of the deal. It was not, and that is an awkward conversation nobody needs. If something matters to your budget, ask before you come and we will put it in writing.
