What does it cost to house a student or mission group in southern Belize?

Group accommodation in Belize is usually quoted per person per night, and the number moves a lot depending on whether you are on the coast or inland.

Ours is simple enough to work out on the back of an envelope. A sleeping pod is $30 a night. A bed in the bunk room is $30 a night. A private room with its own bathroom is $75 a night for the room, not per person, and those rooms sleep two or three.

Add 9% lodging tax to that. There is no tax on meals.

So a group of twenty in pods and bunks, staying seven nights, is 20 x $30 x 7 = $4,200 of lodging, plus 9%, which is $4,578. If four of those people take two private rooms instead, you swap eight pod-nights for fourteen room-nights and the arithmetic changes accordingly.

Meals are separate and are cooked here: $15 per person per meal, for groups of twelve or more, with a minimum of two meals a day. Three meals a day for twenty people is $900 a day.

Everything is in US dollars. A 50% deposit confirms the booking and the balance is due thirty days before arrival.
