Where can a group stay in Punta Gorda, Belize?

Punta Gorda is a small town. There are guesthouses and a few resorts on the coast road, but very little built for a group that needs to sleep twenty-odd people in one place and eat together.

We are at 12 Pelican Street, in the middle of town. The compound was built by hand over twenty-five years and runs on one principle: one group at a time. When your people arrive, nobody else is here. No other guests in the kitchen, no strangers in the courtyard, no sharing the rooftop with a couple on holiday.

The beds are twenty-five in total. Four private rooms sleep nine between them, each with air conditioning, a TV and its own bathroom. The dormitory holds twelve individual hardwood sleeping pods, each with a locker. A bunk room attached to the dorm adds four more beds. Everything is air-conditioned, which in southern Belize is not a luxury.

There is also a separate self-contained apartment on the compound, which is where group leaders and faculty usually end up.

It is a three-minute walk to the hospital and to the University of Belize Toledo campus, and you can walk to the water. That location is the reason most groups end up here — whatever your people are doing during the day in Toledo District, they can walk out of the gate to it.
