A Piece of Ground

When should a group come to southern Belize?

Toledo is the wettest district in Belize. The drier months run roughly February to May, and most university and mission groups come between January and July. Book early for those months — we take one group at a time, so a week is gone once it is taken.

Southern Belize does not have a tourist season so much as a wet one and a less-wet one. Toledo District gets more rain than anywhere else in the country, which is why it is as green as it is.

The drier stretch runs roughly February into May. June through November is wetter, with the hurricane season formally running June to November. Rain here tends to arrive hard and pass, rather than settling in for days.

In practice most academic and mission groups arrive between January and July, because that is what semesters and summers allow. That means the same weeks are wanted by several organisations at once.

Because we host one group at a time, there is no version where two groups share a week. Once a week is taken it is gone for everybody, whatever size the next group is. Organisations that plan a year ahead get the weeks they want; the ones that ring in March asking about June usually do not.

The calendar on our home page is open into 2027 and shows exactly what is left.
